The Mutants were one of my faves. T-Bone Burnett has worked with everybody on the planet - Elvis Costello, Dylan, Counting Crows, musical director on the Roy Orbison PBS show they cart out at pledge, produced the "I walk The Line" soundtrack. He won a Grammy for producing the soundtrack for "O Brother Where Art Thou", you get the picture. Sadly not much of his stuff is online, and what is can't be embedded - so you need to follow the link for this track from 1988's "The Talking Animals." Sorry.

The seriously under-appreciated Sam Phillips. This song appeared on her record "Martinis & Bikinis", notice the Beatles influence (If I Needed Someone). The same record has a kick ass cover of Lennon's "All I Want Is Some Truth." Look for it in used record stores or maybe iTunes (haven't verified if it's there), well worth buying. Her ex, the great producer T-Bone Burnett, is playing guitar on this. He's the one sitting closest to Sam. Think we'll need to post some T-Bone next.

UCLA Taser Video - raw footage

This is the raw footage of a student being tasered repeatedly at a UCLA library for not having an ID card. Granted the kid is exhibiting a lot of attitude, but there are about a gazillion other actions the cops could have taken short of zapping him multiple times (which can cause death). They keep telling him to get up when it is quite possible that he is unable to stand because he'd just been tasered. Eyewitnesses said the student was in the process of leaving when the police started shoving him and when he objected by cursing they tasered him. Towards the end a cop threatens to taser another student who is asking for the cop's name and badge number. It turns out the tasered student is from middle-eastern descent.

Be warned this is fairly long at over 6 minutes, the quality is funky since it it's from a cell phone, and the screaming can make watching this very uncomfortable.

This is a parody of a remake of the notorious film from 1979. Shot like a trailer for a big budget movie. Great production values and real stars. I saw it at the Whitney on a big screen and it knocked me out. One revelation in the trailer is that Courtney Love is god - that explains so much about our world.
